TruFusion St. Louis – Fitness Center Review

Learn more about TruFusion STL, a fitness studio that offers unlimited yoga, pilates, kettleball, cycling, barre, bootcamp, boxing and more.

TruFusion has 2 locations in St. Louis – one in Clayton (shown here) and one at The Foundry.

Overview of TruFusion St. Louis

TruFusion St. Louis sets itself apart from other boutique fitness studios you may have tried, offering multiple group fitness modalities under one roof. Enjoy unlimited yoga, barre, cycling, strength, Pilates, boxing & more – in heated and non-heated rooms with your membership. It’s refreshing & surprising that despite TruFusion’s larger footprint, they found a way to maintain a tight-knit, community feel.  TruFusion has 2 locations in St Louis, one in Clayton and one at The Foundry, and their various membership types will allow you to attend classes at one or both.

I sat down with TruFusion St. Louis owner, Joe Goldberg, to learn more about why he opened TruFusion and Joe shared, “My mission when opening TruFusion St. Louis was to create a ‘happy place’ for clients.” After spending the last few months testing out classes in both locations, chatting with clients & group fitness instructors, I would like to report “Joe, mission accomplished!”.  TruFusion is a destination fitness resort that has very much given me, your clients & staff a huge source of joy.

What Makes TruFusion Unique?

TruFusion blends everything you love about group fitness into one studio.  The workouts are varied, transformative & dynamic.  The vibe is hip, a touch edgy, yet community focused & inclusive.  The music & dim lighting is energizing & upbeat.  The amenities feel luxe.  Truly everything about Trufusion St. Louis is unique.  Their well-trained & passionate instructors bring their personality & style to their classes.  Many of their instructors, started as members, and their passion fuels more loyalists.  TruFusion blends a little bit of yoga into every class which will challenge the mind & body in ways you won’t find anywhere else.

TruFusion St Louis takes great pride in their community. Members enjoy a sense of camaraderie and belonging.  I heard from a few members that TruFusion provides a ‘sanctuary’ for them & it’s the best 45 mins of their day.
The class sizes are proof that the members are thrilled to be there.

I personally love how TruFusion’s passion for community extends beyond their walls.  They host many FREE community events, from park Pilates and outdoor yoga to a weekly community HIIT class at the Foundry location.  By supporting the St Louis community at large, they make exercise & a healthy lifestyle more accessible to all.

  • Group fitness enthusiasts – It’s like a Disneyworld of group fitness. There is always something new to discover.   Have it ALL here.
  • Hot Yoga fanatics – Get your fill here + try other heated modalities – like Hot Barre, Hot Pilates or even a heated bootcamp.
  • Fitness variety lovers – The classes are the opposite of repetitive & prescriptive .  You won’t ever find yourself bored or static.
  • ClassPass users missing Community – TruFusion is NOT available to book on ClassPass but if you love the variety of ClassPass & feel you are missing the community of a single location, TruFusion fills both needs.
  • Students, teachers, military, veterans, first responders – Discounted membership is available

What Classes Should I Take at TruFusion?

There is something for everyone at TruFusion.  With over 230 group fitness classes each week, you are sure to find something you like. Check their schedule online for a full listing of classes, taught 7 days a week at both locations.  Below are a few instructors that stood out during my time at TruFusion, but I wouldn’t hesitate trying a class from any of the group fitness staff! In my experience, they are all highly skilled & fuse their unique style into each class.

Here are a few of my favorite classes:

  • Battle Boxing – 50% boxing & 50% battle ropes.  Try Bre Cashel’s class at The Foundry location.
  • TRU Barefoot Bootcamp – A heated bootcamp class that fuses mat Pilates & yoga with strength exercises using weights, resistance bands and kettle bells.  Angela Merlo’s class will kick your a$$!
  • TRU Hot Pilates Express – This heated mat Pilates class uses resistance bands and light weights to give you the perfect blend of cardio & strength training. Try Maureen Alfermann’s class – she has mastered the art of explaining complex moves!
  • TRU Circuit Express – This circuit strength workout tests your athleticism with a mix of TRX, kettle balls, battle ropes, & more.  I enjoyed Haven Jones’ classes; she helped me modify for a knee injury and still got me sweaty.
  • TRU Ride – This immersive cycling class will have you riding to the beat of the music.  The great tunes in Kira Andersen’s class had time flying by!
  • TRU TRX Express – This low-impact class activates your core with every move & leverages gravity to increase strength, endurance and mobility.  Try Maggie Golterman’s class for a unique & challenging 45 minutes!

The Story Behind TruFusion STL

TruFusion is a boutique franchise with less than 20 locations in the country.  Prior to bringing TruFusion to St. Louis, owner, Joe Goldberg, spent a small fortune to add variety to his fitness routine, paying for multiple gym memberships at once. When he discovered the TruFusion franchise, he saw an opportunity to help others achieve the same varied workouts, but at a fraction of the cost.  In 2018, he took a leap of faith, leaving the financial business and becoming one of the first TruFusion franchisees in the US.  Joe shared, “Exercise helped me through hard times.  I want to give that back to others and help them find a happy place”.

The Foundry location in Downtown St. Louis has 4 rooms, 2 heated and 2 non-heated. The proximity to the dining and entertainment offerings make it a fun spot to meet up with friends!

TruFusion Locations, Amenities & Membership

Locations

TruFusion in Clayton – 7447 Forsyth Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63105

The Clayton location, which opened in 2018, is a bustling studio with a lot of energy.  Generally classes here are pretty full, especially during Summer, with the influx of college students returning home.  This location has 5 fitness rooms, 2 heated & 3 non-heated. You will find a mix of ages, genders, body types that frequent the classes all with a passion for group fitness.  The Berry Box which shares the space makes an easy spot to grab a smoothie or acai bowl after class with a friend.  This central location offers free parking and is within walking distance of a Metro location, as well as many businesses, homes & universities.

TruFusion @ The Foundry – 3730 Foundry Way #192, St. Louis, MO 63110

The Foundry location is newer & opened in 2023.  While less crowded than the Clayton location, TruFusion @ The Foundry continues to grow their client base. From my experience, the clientele here tend to be younger, which match the edgier décor – think STL themed graffiti & motivational LED signs.  This location has 4 large group fitness rooms, 2 heated and 2 non-heated.  Additionally, its proximity to the City Winery, Alamo Drafthouse Cinema and the City Foundry Food Hall make it a fun spot to meet up with friends – before, during or after class.  Free parking is available as well.

FitnessFoodieSTL’s Final Thoughts

If you have been following my blog, you know that I’ve been in a non-committal phase with exercise – dating many gyms – and decidedly not looking to settle on one.  And after 2 months of membership at TruFusion and countless classes, you might anticipate that I was ready to jump to the next ship.  But I actually feel quite the opposite…I’m more intrigued by TruFusion then ever….TruFusion gives me all the FEELS.  The classes are unique, the workouts are challenging, the instructors are inspiring, and the vibe is hip. Plus, it provides the variety of 5 gyms in one.

There is only ONE thing that I wish were different about TruFusion… I simply wish it was a little closer to home.  Currently, I don’t mind making the trek once or twice a week, bits it’s a bit too far for me to make my lone studio.  If TruFusion were to move more west, I’d be likely to sign on the dotted line. For now, I’ll keep TruFusion in my mix of favs and head to Clayton or the Foundry when my schedule allows.

Xoxo,

Natalie aka FitnessFoodieSTL.
